That's a good description of contesting in general and basically how I feel
about it: no appeal. Boring, redundant, and an unfortunate fact is the
majority are rude, self-centered ops who are only interested in improving
the number of times people will confirm that they heard them repeat what
they already said (known as 'points'). Not all, just most. For some
bragging rights, I suppose. For me these days, just finding time to get on
the air to operate with useable band conditions is contest enough.

There are a number of old radio folks on 40 CW most weekdays including
Joe/W3GMS. He's been poking me to get active with CW again, something I've
wanted to do and threatened to do for years. Just never seem to find the
time. Hopefully this winter. The amusing part is, my transmitter doesn't
even have a key jack, even though it's an AM/CW-only transmitter. The wires
hook to one of the terminal strips across the back. Need to hook a jack up
so I can use different keys.

BTW Rob if you're still reading, was hearing you, Don, and Roy KB5MD on 40
AM in the last hour. The band is really crappy tonight, down considerably
compared to recent nights with a lot of QSB and drop outs. Don was loud
then dropped off, you were loud then also dropped down a lot. Glad we got
the chance to work this past week, at least. Maybe things will perk back up
in the next hour.
