My orange drops have a line on one side showing the outside foil...

IF I remember right, the outside foil bit was most useful when one side of
the capacitor was grounded or attached to a much lower impedance node thus
using the outside layer of foil for shielding to some extent. As far as
reversing the orange drops, it should make no difference whatsoever since
they are bipolar. Also, keep in mind that caps in series (with the circuit)
roll off the lows and caps in parallel (to the circuit) roll off highs.

There was a 'foil side' on the original paper cap so maybe reversing the
orange drop leads will help if the audio highs are too much without the cap
in line. Not sure why the hum appeared, may be unrelated.

I've had very good luck with justradios.com on caps. I've ordered a lot from
them over the past few years for my rx restorations. They do have a $20
