Amen to that! I've built working SDR front-ends using both transistors
and tubes (with a DSP back-end, direct conversion isn't just for CW/SSB
any more), and while no one is going to confuse them with a Flex, my
list of projects and ideas to try just keeps growing . Seems to me
this is how hams have always dealt with new technology, no matter which
era, to borrow Larry's phrase, "floats your boat". Looking at other
hobbies, I don't see Corvette guys picking fights with the Model T
restorers, or pianists arguing with banjo pickers - as Riley
Hollingsworth continues to say , some hams just need to "lighten up"!
Whether it involves filaments or FFTs, why worry about what the next guy
is doing when you can be making your own fun on the radio?
