I recall the first time I heard a Flex some years back, a 1500 being used
by Jay N3WWL who has one of those deep radio voices. He had a Raytheon
RA-250 at the time and I swore he was on that, he sounded so good. Was a
shock to my system, in a good way. I'd never heard the term Flex before
that beyond using it as a nickname for some musclehead at the gym. A number
of folks in the AM community back this way run them and do very well, no
off frequency complaints or other issues. I suppose those who nitpick on
frequency accuracy with new gear aren't much different than those who look
down their noses at anyone not using tube gear for AM operation, or
homebrew, or whatever. There's always a few.
Class E HB gear is another example of some clean sounding newer technology.
That's the nice thing about AM - there's something for just about any
taste, technology-wise.
