I've been called elitist. A year or two ago I communicated with local
ARRL officials about the need to emphasize the technical aspects of
ham radio and balance the focus on operating and emergency
preparedness and I was told I was elitist.
I believe the goal of every ham should be to attempt a near
professional mastery of radio in terms of knowledge and assembly of a
station, given the limits of his or her resources of course, This
means striving always to gain more knowledge and improve the quality
of his signal. Since this attitude runs counter to the mass
marketing of ham radio, it is considered elitist. Okay, with that
defining it, I'm happy to be considered elitist.
