[AMRadio] B&W ##$A Dummy Load Question

I've read the manual on my B&W 334A dumy load and it says, in no
uncertain terms, not to exceed 1000 W peak input to it lest the "diode
in the voltmeter will be destroyed." Yet, the next paragraph says that
"...the maximum RF carrier, 100% modulated, that may be applied is 1000
W." But! But! A 100% modulated 1000 W AM carrier has a peak power of
4000 W, which handily exceeds the peak limit of 1000 W.
What's the real skinny?
