I had a BC-779 that was chrome plated. From what I was told it was 
specifically built for the admiral's cabin on ship. He could listen to the 
BC bands and shortwave to get the latest on the war effort on the other side 
of the globe.

Never heard of or seen one. Such things would likely be presentation
models, denoted by a special tag or plate attached.

I tend to think most were later creations. The SX-28 is one of the few with
documented examples as far as I know.
