The QST December cover is always a "Seasons Greetings" cover with no
specific reference to an article. QEX is, as its header describes, " A
Forum for Communications Experimenters". The magazine has no information
concerning contesting or DX'ing. Of course most of QEX's articles have
moved well beyond 50's technologies and ideas.
