I just read up on JB Weld. The stuff is good for 500 F indefinitely and
600 F for 10 min, so temperature won't be an issue. The packaging says
NOT to use alcohol to prepare surfaces, so I take back what I said about
that. JB Weld, inc., happily tells us that it is "steel reinforced," so
the stuff does have ferrous particles in it. But, it will also tolerate
being used in a microwave oven. Thus, I'm doubtful that any harm would
come from using it. JB Weld also makes a clear, quick-cure product, but
it's not as strong and its temperature tolerance is listed as only 300
F. Finally, cyanoacrylate is soluble in acetone, not toluene. My bad.
