[AMRadio] Is AM a special case, or is it "just another mode"?

Hello from one who started out 58 yrs ago on AM, and who today - like
yourselves- restores, recaps, and owns and operates lots of AM boatanchors !
I read Dave Summer's Editorial on "Symbol Rate" and don't see anything
where he is delineating AM to "just another mode"
Must be missing something, for what I read is :
"That the ARRL Board would like to have the adoption of a
bandwidth limit of 2.8KHz for amateur _data _transmissions below 29.7 MHz.
Summer also states that :
" It is important to note that _the limit would only apply to "data"
modes _in the subbands where RTTY and data are authorized emission types
and not to either
_analog _or _digital_ _phone emissions. __
_Thus, am in agreement with Jim, W5JO's, comment :
" From what I see there is nothing more than an attempt to change the
symbol rate for digital communications and _nothing is in there to
affect AM__. _
_
_ _But given the ARRL's history everyone must be vigilant ."
