De-ox-it works well.  If you
can find Cramolin or Quietrol from a vintage person those are good too. 
WD40 contains citric acid, that's the penetrating element,  not sure
how much, but even though they say you can  use it on fishing reals and
guns, in the long run it eats the finish.
