Todd,
The original was a brass strap.
Brass shim stock could most likely be used to make a replacement.
Whomever did this makeshift part didn't have a good grasp on what they
needed, nor how to do so.
If I still had one around here, I'd take it out and send it to you, but
alas, I had to get heavy items out of here as I had too many that sat
around and on the floor in several places.
Try the Heathkit list. Perhaps there may be someone that either has a
parts unit, or is looking to part some pieces out.
A nylon strap would most likely have too much stretch in it.
