Already sent an email to Mark, but others may find this interesting.
If you use a 'pack and ship' place, and they do the packing, they become a sort of agent for the shipper in that they verify the intactness of the shipped item before packing. When damage occurs, they are responsible for compensation to you, and then they go after who ever they used for the shipment, FedEx, UPS, truck line, whatever.
It appears that folks looking to make a buck, will pack and ship their own damaged goods, ship them to a relative, and then claim shipping damage. The pack and ship places that perform the packing, eliminates this possibility which makes them liable. That is why it is best to take pictures of your intended shipping item, from all sides, before packing, during packing, and after packing. That is the only way Fedex paid for my Palstar tuner they destroyed, without argument, after I emailed all the photos.
Don't forget to use Grey Hound bus lines for regional delivery. They do a good job, and in many cases, there is only one on and off load required.
