[AMRadio] Restorations

I'm watching the current thread on Subject: Restore Info.

I've just gone through a whole large batch of messages that go way back,
up to the last that I have managed to keep and/or recover after hard
drive fatalities. (The latter has been resolved with TB external backup
drives.)

When going down this path, how often do we pay attention to how much we
put into restoring a piece of equipment from the '40s or '50s?

Look at Brian's posting in regard to his SX-28.

I looked at one that I own. It's a BC-610. The cost of replacement
tubes cost more than I paid for the radio.
Imagine the groans of despair when a 2A3 and a 5Z3 inadvertently got
reversed in the haste to bring it all back together. The 2A3 went poof
faster than the blink of an eye.

This makes us all slow down and think harder, as every day passes by.

I sure take a lot more time, and try to balance what

I take on the doing of these things. I won't even try and put numbers
to a St. Js R-390A survivor restoration. I can only say that it has
been long and painful.

Best to all that follow this passion

Bob - N0DGN
