I have the X-1000B in the racks at WCKI and it is NOT a transmitter I would ever buy or recommend. The "engineer" before me put that thing in. I thought that I had a "Monday" rig, but after talking about it to other Engineers and Owners on Broadcast Engineering lists, NOBODY has anything nice to say about it. I couldn't even get 100% Modulation out of it until I modified the HV Power Supply! Parts Support is non-existent, and I had to use NTE Service Replacement parts to fix it when it has gone down.
When we built out WLTQ, I specified a Nautel Transmitter that has been a good machine. BE Also makes a Great 1 KW AM Transmitter. If you find a hungry enough salesman, you can get a Nautel J-1000 or a BE AM1A for about the same price as the X-1000B and get a MUCH better Transmitter.

There is no limitation to the fidelity of AM radio. From a mathematical standpoint, AM does better in frequency response than FM. - Leonard Kahn
