[AMRadio] Bugged by CW?

Rob and Bernie,
For what it's worth (I guess I should say FWIW, but I'm too old for that), I
think that is a built in "feature" of the new rigs. AM on my K3 was really
nice, and I got "great audio" reports on 10M AM, but power output would
wander all over the place on 80 and 160M. I emailed in to the only guy that
makes any sense at K3, and his response, "oh yeah, it's just that way on 160
and 80M, seems fine on the other bands." Just kind of "matter of fact". He
said it had been turned in for the "powers that be" to work on the firmware,
but the way he said it made me doubt anything will ever be done, AM seems an
afterthought and has very LOW priority. My K3 does a nice job on 10M with
it's 25W of carrier max, but that's not nearly enough here for 80 and 160.
That's why I wanted to try it with the amp on 80 and 160, but its "roaming"
as much as 10 to 20 watts from start to finish in a QSO makes a BIG
difference in output with the Alpha, hi.

I should say that I am not a favorite at Elecraft, or the reflector, as I
have the audacity to report problems I find with a new rig I buy from a
manufacturer. I also didn't feel like I should have to pay for "fixes" to
correct engineering deficiencies in a new rig, but then that's another story
and not applicable here. I say it only to say that I am NOT one of the
"favorites" (I get into trouble calling them KoolAid drinkers, not sure why)
and someone more sane might be able to get something done!!
73,
Don, WB5HAK
