Jim,
I may be the only ignorant one on the group, but I need some "explanation"
of the help that is needed here. When Al, K3TKJ retired, things became
confused in my mind, and I guess they haven't cleared up yet. QTH.net and
QSL.net were two different entities and, in my mind hosting two different
venues. QTH hosted a VERY good forsale/swap list and web hosting and paid
advertisers, QSL.net ran the email reflectors with NO outside support. That
may be an oversimplification, but that was my understanding. I always
supported QSL.net, as I would HATE to lose my email reflectors, and felt I
should support something I use. I try to donate to QTH.com when I use it to
buy or sell.
As I said, maybe all that above is an oversimplification, but it appears
from looking at what I just typed that if we don't break down and start
sending in some funds, we could lose ALL of the above by just our ignoring
taking care of business. Maybe Scott needs to get more specific and let us
know what the needs are. He is causing some of the problem, because he has
ALWAYS said on his site (quoted loosely) "I want to provide this for free,
donate if you want to", and maybe that has become now "if you don't donate,
all this is going to come crashing down". Sometimes it takes that with us
hard heads.
Jim, you know me well enough to know that I am jesting, as I HAVE always
tried to donate to QSL.net, and do send funds to QTH (not as regularly as I
probably should), but I don't want to lose either and I think the community
as a whole would hate to lose this valuable resource (or resources). But
maybe they need to let us know both what their needs are, and what they
would consider to be an appropriate donation and quit beating around the
bush!! A LOT of us are on fixed incomes, but most can afford to send
something if we have some sense of the true needs.
73,
Don, WB5HAK
