The following is posted after asking and receiving prior permission
from the group owner and moderators.

Since the devastating earthquake in Haiti in January of 2010, a few
of us that hang out on 14.300 MHz have made it a project to provide
as much assistance as we can to Father John (HH6JH), Father Fred
(HH6OMI), and the Catholic church's Missionary Oblates of Mary
Immaculate (OMI) order in Les Cayes, Haiti, about 80 miles southwest
of Port au Prince.

Late this last week I received word from Father John that the
generator at the main OMI compound in Les Cayes had died and can not
be fixed (it is very old and the necessary parts are not
available). Power outages in Les Cayes are frequent and often
lengthy, and they need their generator to keep a freezer and
refrigerator running to prevent food spoilage, along with other
normal power needs (lights, water pump, etc.).

It will cost US$6500 to replace their generator with a new generator
purchased from a local dealer in Les Cayes.

Brother Augustin Cote at the OMI office and residence in Lowell, MA
has set up a fund to receive tax-deductible donations for the Les
Cayes generator. Any monetary donations will be gratefully accepted
and can be sent to the following address:

Oblate Foreign Missions
PO Box 9088
Lowell, MA 01853-9088.

Checks should be made out to "Oblate Foreign Missions" and in the
Memo section of the check, write "Les Cayes Generator".

The Oblate Foreign Missions will send you a tax receipt that you may
be able to use for a tax deduction depending on your tax situation.

I realize that some of you may question whether this is legitimate,
and all I can suggest is that you contact me at wa1rkt (at) comcast
(dot) net or 603-434-6994 and tell me what I need to do to verify to
your satisfaction that it is legitimate.

Also, if you are so inclined, please join us on 14.300 MHz Intercon /
MMSN, where you will find me most days.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help, and a special thanks to
Brian, Todd, and Jim for allowing me to post this.

73,

Rick WA1RKT
