"Those are all _ham_ sales venues on-line....."

Well, since we're on a ham reflector talking about ham gear, I took the
jump of logic to assume that ham gear would be an example you could relate
to. If not, the same holds true of muscle car parts I buy and sell as well
as stuff for my old tractors that I work on.

"Tell me about another on-line auction site/service besides eBay that
more than three people have heard of."

Not my assertion, but to answer your question, none. They were the first to
implement the concept successfully and continue to be successful to a large
number of people. Being successful equals being a monopoly? What's
stopping you, for example, from starting a competitive site ?

"For every ham on swap.qth.com there is probably 100 million people
buying/selling on eBay. Quit kidding yourself."

You're really worked up about this aren't you?

I never claimed that the forums gathered more people,,... that too is your
assertion. I just mentioned that they're a very successful alternative for
me., both as a buyer and a seller of many dozens of transactions.

"If you really want to give everyone a chance, why don't you try this:
List an item for a week on some ham web site........."

Um...I really don't care about giving everyone a chance and again, I never
said such. I'm perfectly happy buying and selling at 'fests, thru forums
and on Ebay if need be. I post an item, it sells for my asking price or
not... and it's that simple.

If you want to tilt at windmills about Ebay not being fair knock yourself
out. Don't use Ebay, don't use forums, and don't use reflectors... it's
your choice in a free market !
