   Unless you are using very low loss cable or a very short run, the 
apparent SWR is pretty meaningless.   SWR is simply a ratio of energy going 
out and energy reflected, if the losses are high the SWR will look fair to 
good.  Do not believe it? use something like an MFJ antenna anaylizer and 
check your beam way outside the band, say at 40 mc or so, if you are not 
showing five to one or more, your coax is lossy.  I use this same technique 
to check my 700 foot run to the 80 meter vert, set the anylizer for 7 mc and 
read swr.    I usually show about six to one and that is with cable that has 
a less than one DB loss for the 700 feet @ 80 meters.   Bernie
