[AMRadio] Dow Corning DC 4

Hi Jim,
DC-4 is used all over the place on electrical connections in aircraft,
especially in ignition systems. I've attached Dow Corning's spec sheet for
aerospace applications in case you don't have it. I've used the stuff
extensively and my experience has been that it's essentially inert. One way to
test it's applicability for higher frequencies might be to put a bit in a small
container in microwave along with a cup of water. Run the system for about 30 s
and see if it gets warm. Honestly, I think you'll be fine.
The weather has become nice again! I should set up another visit with you so we
can lash one of you VFOs into the Champ and see if everything works right. If
so, it's in the VFO unit and I'll bet "dollars to doughnuts" that the problem
resides with one (or all) of the old, mica capacitors becoming contaminated with
the contact cleaner I used.
73,
Kim N5OP

That is what prompted me to look about for the Dow Corning product. At
the local auto parts store they sell what the call bulb grease. I
purchased a packet some time back for a connector that I installed on my
trailer and there was just enough for that one connector. It is in a
small packet like those sent with antennas. There is no identification
of what is contained in the packet so I decided to look for the DC 4
alternative. Not only that but they charge a lot of money for the small
packets.
I am guessing it is the same thing, but no one could tell me and I did
not want to contaminate the connector should it not be compatible.
