Well, I have a D104 I picked up years ago at a fest, and replaced the dead element with one of those Mouser $5 Kobitone wonders. Sounds just fine to those who have commented on AM or SSB. But. if you have modified your audio response on your rig so you are all lows and no highs, perhaps it won't sound right. But fellers, get on any band where there is AM and listen to a weaker station that may have an S-4 carrier, and the wonderful 'full bodied' audio when you are 20 over, sounds like listening to a speaker buried in the mud. On first Wednesdays when I listen, there are some beautiful sounding stations out there, but then there are some that will receive glowing reports and sound awful. Maybe 38 years of jet engines is my problem though.
