Very true, Warren. The allure of old tube gear that you actually
operate and work on is powerful, indeed.
But nowadays a lot of the newer gear can sound pretty darned good
right out of the box. The Flex radios come to mind.
As well, plenty of old tube gear can or does sound less than
'broadcast quality'. So long as it's a clean signal, it's all good.
The main requirement is use of and a true interest in the mode.
Looking forward to getting on the high bands soon, including Six. As
much as I enjoy the low bands, the chance to work around the world on
AM with low power is very enticing.
