Hey, I resemble that remark!
> you never operate above 40 m. and don't understand why anyone wants to
Concerning the above, I've been having a blast lately on 10M AM with a
couple of my homebrew rigs. Also have been known to operate 20M, 15M (very
occasionally), 6M, and 2M AM.
> you went to a club meeting and dozed off during the demonstration of PSK31
Tried PSK31 a few times when it was new, but it didn't excite me enough to
stick with it. If I'm going to operate a "digital" mode I'd rather use my
old Model 28, or do some CW. But by far most of the time I'm on AM.
> you dozed off again the following month during the talk about six and

See related comment above.
But I haven't attended local club meetings in years - I'd rather be "doing
radio" in my own shack; time is too precious.
> you cannot imagine a ham shack anywhere other than a basement
Have several stations in the cellar, and that's where I do most of my
operating because I'm usually at the workbench at the same time. But I
also have a shack on the ground level, and on the 2nd floor, in the
bedroom - I have a radio-friendly XYL. All AM-capable, of course.
> you wouldn't be caught dead with a manufactured antenna
Not manufactured wire antennas, anyway - what would be the point? But I do
have a Cushcraft A3 on the tower for 20M, 15M, and 10M, and some
commercially-made 3-element yagi for 6M given to me, or effectively so,
by, IIRC, N1BEC (who I believe is a list member, or former one).

Yep, for sure. One transmission is usually more than enough time ;-)
