[AMRadio] Protecting receiver (was WTB: Coax relay, 110VAC, aux contacts)

Right Don....
In fact, ever since I got zorched by 110v in my first rig....a Ranger that
had those darn ceramic sockets with 110v on it.
I was never able to find the correct plug for it so I was sticking in bare
wires for the dow-key....big mistake....and I knew it!
But I forgot.
More recently.....probably about the time the no coders were born.....I
started using a chassis punch in the ceramic socket area and put in a 2 pin
Jones with pop rivets. Now I can do a reach around and not get lit up.

It's likely just me, but if you fear 110v AC, probably none of the AM
boatanchors are for you! When it breaks, or if it doesn't work out of the
box, you WILL be subjected to much higher voltages that 110. Just use
proper precautions and all will be fine. Of course, cover the Dow Key
contacts if you feel the need to use them so you don't fry my cats, but all
this worry seems funny to me. Just put things in boxes (even Dave's shoebox

keeps the cats out) and go for it!! I found a neat way to make a plug for
the back of my Viking II using easy to find parts and will cover the 110V
safely. My cats aren't friend by the many plugs in sockets throughout the
house. I will also put Phil's Dow Key substitute in a nice metal box, so
the 110VAC relay doesn't bother me. Again, it's probably just me, but in
boatanchor AM, there is no plug and play.

Don, WB5HAK
