I can second this one. Been using Krud Kutter for awhile on rust and chassis oxidation.
It is fairly mild to handle and has an anti-oxide additive to stop further damage. Says it can be painted.

Haven't been following this and maybe this was mentioned, but Krud Kutter
does a wonderful job.  Saw it work yesterday  on a Hallicrafters chassis,
removed all the rust and left the silk screened identifiers on the metal.
