Hello all,
I am looking for a gift for my nephew, who is 16 and into old things.
He likes working on old appliances, old motors, old electrical stuff, the
older the better.
He found an old table top radio, tube type, AM and FM, FM has two bands, the
regular one and one around 40 mhz...
I got it working and he loves it, it took a bunch of caps and some tubes,
and an alignment, and a LOT of cleaning up..
Anyway, I thought I would look for some old tube type short wave receiver
for a reasonable price, he might enjoy tuning ham and short wave.
I am looking for something that works, or almost works, something really
old, something that looks old, a magic eye tube would be very cool.
Now this is a gift, so I do not want a rust bucket nasty looking thing.
I hope to spark some interest in radio with the gift.
I used to have some old stuff but moved it along many years ago, but figure
many hams have stuff around they never got to fixing, or do not use because
its not great by todays standards.
I once found a few low end tube receivers at a local concrete place that
were owned by the owners brother who passed away, and got them cheap as I
told the guy I was going to clean them up and give them away, which is what
I did.
You guys might think about doing the ame thing with some older stuff you do
not use, give it to some youngster to spark some interest in radio maybe....
Anyway, let me know if you have anything that would work as a gift at nephew
christmas type prices, plus I have a good junk box and can part trade for
something also, besides cash.
Thanks,
Brett
