Subject: [AMRadio] Valiant carrier...
How efficient is the RF stage of the Valiant? The manual seems to claim
about 75% but I haven't been able to achieve that. I have read that the
Valiant prefers the original 6146 to any of the later versions. Can someone
tell me how critical this is? I am using 3-6146A's and wonder would I get
better performance from the plain 6146? I am afraid the turret capacitors
are breaking down under load and causing a little problem with output. So
far, 100 watts of carrier in the AM mode is the maximum I have achieved.
That's running 8 ma drive and 330 ma plate current. All tube voltages are
well within tolerance.
Thanks for any advice you may give.
