As some of you may not know, Bob was moved to Presbyterian Hospital in Plano
yesterday morning for a tracheostomy. He made it through surgery just fine
but was kept overnight for observation. He is still on the ventilator. He
will be weaned from the ventilator gradually because breathing through a
trach is different than the way a person normally breathes.
I had to be at LifeCare by 7:00 a.m., but it was after 8 before the transfer
was done. I stayed until he was out of surgery and back in his room before
coming home to take a nap. I went back to the hospital last night to see
Bob and stayed until almost midnight. He was doing well, but he was
frustrated because he still couldn't talk. He tried writing messages, but
his hands were so swollen that he was having trouble writing. He also kept
writing over the other letters he had written, making it impossible to read.
Because the breathing tube had been down his throat, he will have a sore
throat for several days, but he will get his voice back soon. It was so
good to see him without the tubes in his mouth and restraints on his hands.
This should be a turning point health-wise for him, and it's a good feeling!
Jane
