[AMRadio] HT44 Ip meter

Has anybody that has had a Halli HT44 put a current meter in the cathodes of the 6DQ5's?  Both cathodes just go to ground, thought maybe lifting both cathodes and feeding them through  2 ohm resistor and appropriate outboard meter and multiplier, would be safer than leaving a meter in the PS meter point with full B+ on it all the time.  

So, any ramifications in lifting the 6DQ5 cathodes, hooking them together and going to ground through 2 ohms?
