Rick, by all means remove that modification. The DX100 was a poor way to get on SSB, the VFO was - no way - stable enough. Even the Apache was a marginal performer
with the SB10, that was my first SSB transmitter in the early 1970s. In addition, it moves the RF drive signal out through cables to the rear, then returns it to the PA.
The switch then bridges the connection when back in AM or CW modes. Be sure that the amplifier is also biased for class C when you are done, not AB.
Let us know how it plays once its back to stock.
