My first real receiver was an HQ110-A/VHF, which my parents gave me
for Christmas, new in 1968. It helped me work the world on 40 and 15
meters as a Novice, and paired nicely with my Viking Ranger. It also
gave me many hours of listening pleasure, and introduced me to a host
of voices such as K4KYV, W8VYZ,
W4CJL, W4ZZZ, W6QS, and hundreds of others.
One day, I even got it to work on 6 meters, despite what turned out to
be a defective coil which wasn't discovered until I had it restored
when it turned 40 in 2008. For all those years, I just assumed it was
naturally deaf on 6, and used converters or other receivers on that
band.
As has been mentioned, the HQ110 series does not have selectable
sideband, or AGC in the side band/CW mode, but it will hold its own on
AM.
I'm glad I somehow managed to hang onto mine.
