Back in the 50's, QST was labeled as the official organ of the American
Radio Relay League Inc. Today it's labeled as the members' official
journal. I don't think QST was ever considered a technical journal even
by them. Back in the "good old days", the pages of QST had lots of fluff
and puff stuff every month and probably more then they have today. A
quick look at the November 1959 QST Table of Contents shows: "A Glimpse
of Russian Amateurs, "Circle Completed", "Recruiting More Hams", "With
the AREC", "How's DX", "Station Activities" and several other "gag me
with a spoon" type articles.

... but little is on a technical level of QST from the 1950s. I think
some of the staff are people with journalism backgrounds and ham
licenses. It isn't as much a technical journal now but more like a
PopTronics type magazine.
