Thanks for your input, Nick.  How much better would an HQ 170 be over my HQ 110A,  Just wondering.
I am certainly getting a lot of good ideas.

Since just about all possibilities have been covered, I'll add to the 
pile ;-)

The Hammarlund HQ-170 and National NC-300 are two of the better 
ham-bands-only (including 160) receivers that are often seen unsold at 
hamfests a very reasonable prices.     The much-coveted Hammarlund SSB 
converters (HC-10 and SPC-10) are basically the final mixer, low IF, 
detector, AGC, and audio system from an HQ-170 receiver yet you can 
typically buy a complete working HQ-170 for half the price or less.

While the later NC-303 was optimized for SSB, the NC-300 has a product 
detector also and will do a good job on the other modes.
