[AMRadio] Usages of AM in the amateur context

My problem with ssb is I never hear anything even remotely interesting on
the mode.
80 meters at night seems to be republican rants against the govt, or maybe
what new radio the guy just got, and even what is on TV (they watch and talk
on the radio at the same time?).
On AM, it seems what old gear someone is using/fixing (sometimes at the same
time), antenna's, homebrew projects, audio experiments, etc.
I find the tech talk much more interesting.
Seems like real ham radio to me...
When a lot of people stopped using homebrew stations, the glory went out of
ham radio.
