OK, here's my personal horror story about a Meissner 150B. Please remember that hindsight is always 20/20.
A guy showed up at my home about 40 years ago with a xmitter that he said he wanted to see if I could get working for him and he'd pay me for the parts and labor. Always looking to earn extra bucks back then I said OK to the idea. He tells me it's rather large and heavy so he better pull around to my basement door where my workbench was located, now I'm a little worried.
Lo and behold it's a Meissner 150B in excellent condition but missing some tubes. The missing tubes turn out to be it's only problem and it works FB. I give it several thorough tests and a couple of long smoke tests on the dummy load, all is well so I call the guy with the monetary damages and tell him to pick it up whenever he wishes.
Now it gets interesting. The owner tells me he really wasn't interested in the old radio, he got it in a deal with a bunch of junk he wanted, and just wanted to see if I could get it to work, tells me to just keep it. Remember, I was young and needing all the extra cash I could earn back then. I tell the guy to come get his xmitter and bring cash with him in no uncertain terms. He laughs and says OK, picks it up a couple of days later and pays me.
It was about 10 years later that I discovered how I had made a big mistake in that deal and really should have took his offer to keep the Meissner 150B!!! Oh well, live and learn.
