yep, I try not to mention that there is qrm from another ham. I really
fail to understand the stupidity of just assuming one owns the freq. I
look for a clear spot 10 kc wide before even asking if the freq is in use.
from then on I consider it mine!!! of course one has to consider skip that
moves the coverage area around. now there have also been times that some one
has called and asked if I could move for a regularly sked net. of course I
will and thanks for asking. I always say none of us are getting out of this
alive, so just be polite. sort of on a roll now, just returned from my
cancer checkup and good to go for another six mo. pretty interesting how
ones attitude and ideas change, I just do not want any problems or cause any
problems. will definitely be on tonight from 3700 to 3710. listen for
the Gates. 73 Bernie

Not specific to your case Bernie, bu there has been a regular group of
guys around 3712 for a few years now, doing SSTV or such. Most nights
there are no issues down there since so few show up to operate.
However, that have been times in the past when they also fired up on
their perceived frequency with zero regard for ongoing QSOs nearby.
This is what the two SSB stations did last night. They didn't sound
like your typical nitwit troublemakers, more like a couple old timers
just having a sked. But they made it clear that they were on 'their'
frequency and could adjust their receivers to get rid of the
interference from the AMers. Problem is, they were only 3-4 kc away,
and the AMers had been using the frequency since mid afternoon/early
evening.

You have it right: get there early and keep some activity going if you
have a specific spot in mind. Otherwise, find a clear area and call
CQ. Be respectful of ongoing QSOs nearby. But when all else fails and
rude operators whose VFO knob is stuck in place insist on interfering,
the words of K4KYV ring true: "Turn up the wick".

Just don't sit there and piss and moan about it. That not only feeds
their ego and encourages them by knowing that they're annoying you, it
makes one sound at least as stupid as the station causing the
intentional QRM. (o: If I miss something in the QSO, I tell the other
station there was a static crash, neighbor fired up his welder, etc.
Never give 'em the satisfaction, you'll only embolden them. 9 times
out of 10 if it's someone looking to jam, they'll move on before long
in search of another target they can 'get to'.

Hope to work you soon. The transmitter here will be finished up later
today and ready for another smoke test.
