It is more pathetic than simply that view TODAY.  I saw this philosophy 
already in play going back to when I acquired the "club" equipment in 
Columbus, Georgia.  The "station" consisted of an HT-37, SX-101A, and a 
Shure 737 microphone.

One of the "club officers" told me to simply be quiet with regards to 
"how" to tune and operate "separate transmitter and receiver" stations.  
His reason for telling me that was because even back then, the majority 
of members that "may" have been able to tune and load a final, 
absolutely could "not" manage to keep the two items on ONE frequency.

Hal, W4FIZ, (SK), may well have been correct!
