That point irritated me as well. So AMers should get off the air
whenever lots of SSB stations appear? That's absurd. And it actually
encourages the mindset that AM stations always have the lower priority,
and may even stimulate people to cause interference to AM stations to
get them off the band and make more room for SSB.
I am frankly sick of the "oh, the bands are so crowded" lament. I find
the ham bands, all of them, getting less used every day.

The February QST actually has a sort of promo article about AM. Not
very
informative, and has the admonition about not operating in crowded band
conditions or contests. Well, I might consider that if those folks who
hate AM
would not use us to tune up or check out their "Ehlllooo, ehhhhllo"
voice
peaks. But I guess I shouldn't look a $39 a year gift horse in the
mouth.
