I'm not sure that's true, except maybe for a few highly collectable
items.  Most vintage gear is a bargain if you think of it in 2010
dollarettes as Don likes to call them : )

examples:  HT20 was $429 in 1952 (maybe it was $459 can't remember for
sure) in today's dollars that would be around $3K to $4K.  I got mine
for $500 including a 122 and 275 w. MB.

I've purchased two KW matchboxes for $300 +- $25.  in 1960 or 1962 it
listed for $149.  In 2010 dollars that would be well over $1K.   the
more commonly available rigs, Rangers, DX100s, Valiants, receivers
like NC300 all probably come out pretty much the same unless you
really go for some super restored detail cleaned like-new example like
the $1200 Ranger I saw for sale on-line somewhere a few months ago.
