[AMRadio] why i like am

I never ran my TS-2000 on AM and I just sold it to a friend.

I would have a look on a O-scope and also this monitor is very good:
http://www.radioassociates.com/ Also it will let you hear off air audio for
recording and to really hear what you sound like. However a scope is much
cheaper. Both are good in testing things like this. My experience on AM
using Japanesse rigs seeing ALC anytime is not good. Should be easy to do
with 12 watts.

Mic phase is very important on the SS rigs, but on some of the new DSP rigs
not so much.

I have a TS-2000 and it has both power and carrier settings. Since I cannot
use more than 12 watts of drive to limit output to 375 watts of carrier I
find this;
Setting the carrier to 100% and reducing the power to 12 causes the alc to
limit the output. This seems to cause the wattmeter not to move much on
modulation peaks. If I leave the power control set at max the alc drops to
0 on carrier but rises on modulation peaks. If I then set the carrier
control to allow 12 watts of carrier out the alc barely moves on modulation
and the wattmeter moves a great deal with modulation. I have not tried
airchecks though to see if others can hear the difference. My service
monitor never registers more than 80% modulation with either setting.
