Getting way off topic here....
But, Rob I have to agree about the VE's. And I used to be one.
Recently heard a guy locally here in PA on 2M CB with a W9 call. When asked "How long ago did you live in the midwest?", he replied
"Oh never. I requested this call because it was cool. Then I heard there was some kind of relationship to the number in your call to where you live.
I guess I should change it to something with a 3 in it.". (I paraphrase)
How in blazes do you pass everything to EXTRA (I looked him up on QRZ), and not know about call districts?
Not only is the technical knowledge going by the wayside, apparently so the need to "know anything".
After sticking my head up for the last couple of years, I'm about ready to go back into Ham Radio Hibernation.

Now, all you VECs reading this, don't get all huffy--look at the past
number of sessions over the years that have been "investigated" by
FCC, with people being recalled for testing (and not showing up). I
think there are a number of signs of more and more hams wanting a plug
and play entertainment center ham shack, and that bothers me. Maybe I
am in need of an attitude adjustment. I sent an email with pretty
much this sentiment as a comment to my local ARRL guys and one of them
called me elitist. Hum. I guess not everyone out there shares my
desire to know how the black boxes in the shack work, but I thought
that was one of the basic points of ham radio. Oh well, as always,
my opinion and one among a million.
