When I had my KWS1, it used the rectifiers with the gas in them, forget the
number, but they were very nice, and no mercury.
No need to disconnect the transformer, but I would just get a pair of the
gas rectifiers.
Don't try that thing on AM, really sad, carrier and one sideband!
I was spoiled even back then, and did not like that rig, having to tune the
RX, zero beat, tune up, tune the antenna tuner, 1/2 hour later I was ready
to talk!
Really nicely made rig though...
