The dial is direct drive to the original capacitor. The tuning would
be too fast if I hadn't spread the band electronically. And a big knob
helps. But I almost put an imported vernier reduction drive on it -
but decided I would try direct first since it was easier to implement,
and then upgrade if needed. The electronic bandspreading made that
unnecessary.

I am wondering if that Johnson Match box knob is direct drive with the
capacitor? Is it hard to tune or since the band so small maybe it is
very
easy to tune stations in without jumping over them?
