[AMRadio] Why do some people capitalise "ham"?

You made me wonder, so I grabbed my Webster's University Dictionary and 
looked up the definition of
"ham"

Sure enough the last definition was, are you ready,   "Informal".  A 
licensed  amateur radio operator.

So guys, we are in the dictionary.
