On the topic of the HRO-50 -

Is anyone familiar with a product detector mod that plugs into the NBFM 
socket and uses a single 6J6?   This one gets around the usual problem 
of having no way to turn on the BFO when in the NBFM position.  The 
stock AM detector is disabled and BFO runs all the time, with the 
plug-in providing both AM and CW detection.  It's pretty clever, just 
wonder who deserves the credit.
