Interestingly, regarding WinLink - I've heard some ARRL officials say that 
their earlier bandwidth regulation proposal, and the IARU bandplan changes now 
happening, are meant to "control" WinLink and keep it from getting out of hand. 
 And others say or imply it is meant to encourage the growth of WinLink as a 
way to get more new hams.

By the way, did you get a 6U8 for your Globe Scout 680 rig?
