   This is a very good starting-off point for research on this subject.

  If I may add something, also look up "Housekeeper seals"  for specific 
info on high-vacuum glass/metal interfacing.


   Some good books (if you can find them) are

  'Handbook of Materials and Techniques for Vacuum Devices'

   and

'Materials and Techniques for Electron Tubes' Both by Walter Kohl

'Handbook of Electron Tube and Vacuum Techniques' by Fred Rosebury

'Materials and Processes of Electron Devices' by Max Knoll


   Should you want to get deeply into the Subject - maybe even design your 
own tube!
