The nominal impedance of a half-wave dipole at least one half wavelength
above ground is approximately 72 ohms.
The reason most modern radios have a 50 output impedance is due to the
preponderance of 50-52 ohm coax cable available since the Korean war.
The mismatch between 50 ohm radios and a 72 ohm antenna is approximately
less than 1.5:1. Virtually all modern radios can easily handle this minor
mismatch.
