Hi Brian
If the 220 vac outlet is wired correctly
You will have 1 neutral lead, 1 hot 110 vac lead, and a second hot 110 .vac  
lead.
Between the neutral and one of the other 2 leads you will have 110  vac
Between the 2 - 110 vac leads you will have 220 vac.
